SMS group awarded Ilsenburger heat treatment line contract
Ilsenburger Grobblech GmbH has awarded SMS group the contract to supply a new heat treatment line.
The project represents SMS group’s third single-source supply of a complete heavy-plate heat treatment line to renowned European steelmakers in quick succession, it is claimed.
Known as Adjustage ll, the project will see the Salzgitter subsidiary strengthen its heavy plate activities at the Ilsenburg site in Germany.
According to SMS, the centrepiece of the project will be the heat treatment line, which will be capable of fulfilling Ilsenburger Grobblech’s ‘exacting quality and flatness requirements’.
Salzgitter, claims SMS group, wants to make the Ilsenburg site fit for future challenges. The plan is to make the site capable of processing 300kt/yr of heavy plate.
The new heat treatment plant will consist of a shot-blaster, two roller hearth furnaces, SMS Group’s MultiFlex-Quench cooling technology (for flexible cooling strategies), a plate leveller, a cleaning and priming line, and a water treatment plant.
Electrical and automation systems will also be supplied by SMS group along with ancilliary facilities, such as a plate conveying system with cooling beds, plate feeding and centreing equipment. There will also be the relocation of equipment from Salzgitter to Ilsenburg.
